As a (an) Rail Car Technician your day-to-day duties will consist of and may not be limited to: Responsibilities:Analyzing, testing, troubleshooting and mechanical repairs on Rail Cars. We are currently seeking an Engineer - Pipeline Integrity in Shelton, CT. DETAILS:Duration: Direct Hire Location: Shelton, CTSalary: up to $135k plus bonus, benefits, etc. Overview:As an Engineer you will be responsible for managing pipeline encroachments and crossings (natural and public), right-of-way corridor integrity maintenance in compliance with appropriate regulations, corporate policy and procedures. This position requires review of site plans for proposed developments, and review and analysis of engineering plans for roadways, sewers, and bridges reconstruction projects undertaken by the DOT, state agencies, or local municipalities to assess the impact of the proposed construction on the facilities. This work includes managing and interpreting hydrographic surveys program for long-term stability of submarine pipeline. This position represents the Company in negotiations with other utility owners, landowners, developers, contractors and agencies regarding the encroachment between Company facilities and external third parties.Responsibilities:This position is responsible for maintaining and updating the Pipeline Integrity Management Plan (IMP) including updating of the In-line Inspection schedule and managing ILI inspections surveys. Use of risk software to conduct annual class location, High Consequence Area, Risk Assessment reviews.Engineering expertise to develop drawing and specifications for pipeline stability repairs, including washouts, river crossing and soil erosion concerns. Engineering knowledge of pipeline repair methods and construction practices.This position is also responsible for project management (design, material procurement, and construction) of non-routine operational and pipeline expansion projects. Project management of these projects includes the negotiation of construction and remediation methods, performing extensive planning and coordination with interdepartmental team members, contractors, quality assurance professionals, external stakeholders, etc. Responsibilities include the design, specification and procurement of services and materials, construction, budget, schedule, commissioning and compliance with all permit requirements and commitments. This position requires the management of multiple projects concurrently.This position is on call 24 hours to respond to emergency conditions including pipeline failures, abnormal operating conditions etc. The position is also required to be available for project work and technical support on weekends and after the regular work hours.Project management involves direction and oversight of up to 5,000 hours annually of internal and contract technical services, and up to 10 different contracts and service agreements.Maintenance and modification of existing facilities up to $10 million.Participates in development of feasibility assessments, decision analysis, and conceptual design basis for projects up to $250 million.Routine annual marine survey work is expected to cost less than $200,000 with occasional requirement for submarine diving operations valued as high as $500,000.Periodic Inspection of River CrossingsPreparation of Capital and Operational Budgets Qualifications:Pipeline operations and construction methods, pipeline mechanics, land and marine surveying, site improvement engineering, slope stability engineering, pipeline internal inspection, environmental protection, operational safety procedures, global positioning system technology (GPS), geographic information systems (GIS), Dynamic Risk Assessment, Technical Toolboxes, or other pipeline calculation software.Project management techniques including scope definition and control, execution strategy, cost estimating and control, team organization and management, scheduling and schedule control, procurement of materials and services, contract management, quality control, and progress reporting.Knowledge of government regulations (Operator Qualifications, FERC, Pipeline Safety, DOT, etc.); environmental, health & safety procedures/ regulations, construction and maintenance practices in related facilities and safe work practices is required.Demonstrated proactive problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize multiple events is required.Legal and administrative requirements for management of contracts for professional services, construction, and materials. We are currently seeking a Winder in Thomaston, CT.As a Winder our day-to-day duties will consist of and may not be limited to: We have an immediate opening in our facility located in Thomaston, CT. PurposeThis position involves inserting coil windings into stators, rotors, and armatures. Input MaterialEmpty stator cores and rotors, some of which are purchased, and armatures that are built in-house plus insulation, phase paper and other materials, and pre-wound coils. Essential FunctionsChecks stator, rotor or armature for bent laminations, burrs, or slots that are not clear. Review traveler for connection diagram, type of winding, span, inserts and coil grouping. For varnish job, install slot liners and begin inserting bottom of first coil in slot and top into proper slot based on span and continue coil insertion for whole group. Continue with following groups, inserting phase papers between groups. Shape coils with forming fixture using press or mallet and check with template. Tie both ends and attach leads by soldering with solder pot and ladles, hand soldering iron, or, for smaller gauge wires, brazing. Input wires are then labeled, and stator is sent to test. For VPI job (sealed insulation), each coil is taped with non-adhesive insulation and additional sleeves, silicone and moisture blockers are installed. Rotors and armatures follow similar procedures, but slots are on outside. Coil wires on armatures must go to the commutator in proper sequence. On heavy duty motors, these wires are welded to the commutator using TIG. On large wound rotors, support rings attached to core support ends of coils. On very large stator/frame assemblies, large rings are temporarily installed and rest in a roller assembly which allows the unit to be rotated for coil insertion. For very large rotors, a temporary arbor is supported on each end and that allows the unit to be rotated for coil insertion. Performs other duties as assigned by the Winding Team Leader. Proficiency Levels Level I: Setup - Operation - Maintenance - Has attained very high level of proficiency and requires very limited supervision. Has a minimum of 5 years’ experience. Can perform any operation that the job requires. Is extremely proficient at math required by job - is expert at using measuring instruments, gauges, and templates. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of machines. Quality/Continuous Improvement/Productivity - Inspects own work - has very low rejection rate. Uses experience and proven techniques to pass job on to next work station in optimum time to maintain required quality and minimize rework. Represents Winding Shop on Continuous Improvement Task Teams. Assists Winding Team Leader to establish Certification Test for each machine/procedure. Assists new employees and other Winders with learning the skills necessary to obtain Certification. Works closely with Engineering on prototype work and makes meaningful suggestions for product improvement. Can fill in for Winding Team Leader. Problem Solving - Can work out virtually any problem that arises concerning work being performed - has usually seen some form of the problem before. Blueprints & Traveler - Can not only correctly interpret the drawings and Traveler documents, but can assist other Winders. Level II: Setup - Operation - Maintenance - Has attained moderate level of proficiency and requires occasional supervision. Generally, has a minimum of 2 years’ experience. Can perform most operations that the job requires. Can do routine math required by job - is able to use most measuring instruments, gauges and templates. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of machines. Quality/Continuous Improvement/Productivity - Inspects own work - has moderate rejection rate. Uses proven techniques to pass job on to next workstation, but in some instances must sacrifice time to maintain required quality and minimize rework. Participates on Continuous Improvement Task Teams. Problem Solving - Can work out most of the problems that arises concerning work being performed - Utilizes the experience of the Level 1 Coil Inserter and the Winding Team Leader. Blueprints & Traveler - Can correctly interpret the drawings and Traveler documents, but sometimes needs assistance when working on new, or very complex, jobs Level III: Setup - Operation - Maintenance - Works at an acceptable level of proficiency and requires general supervision. Generally, has less than 2 years’ experience. Can perform some of the operations that the job requires and is learning the more complex operations.
