Position Summary and Special Duties:
 
As a (an) Machine Shop Manager your day-to-day duties will consist of and may not be limited to: The Machine Shop / Facilities Manager is responsible for the overall running and day to day operation of the machine shop and facilities including organization and management of personnel, assignment of duties, scheduling of work, programming jobs, determination of required tooling, ordering of supplies and general organization of the shop.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the Machine Shop team.
  • Provide motivation, support, guidance, and constructive feedback to employees, developing and training them while building understanding of and alignment with company culture and goals.
  • Provide decisive leadership giving clear direction in everyday and pressure situations.
  • Handle time & vacation approval, hiring selections and decisions to discontinue employment.
  • Manufacture the best possible products on time.
    • Schedule machines and staff for maximum productivity.
    • Coordinate all labor and materials in the machine shop.
    • Identify and implement processes and procedures to improve efficiency and quality.
    • Make recommendations on capital expenditure to improve capacity and quality.
    • Monitor productivity, utilizing charts and soft knowledge to maintain maximum productivity.

  • Responsibilities include the following major duties:
  • Management responsibility for day-to-day operations of the machine shop
  • Hiring and management of machine shop personnel
  • Organization of workflow through the machine shop
  • Assignment of duties to machine shop personnel
  • Design and maintenance/organization of tooling as needed.
  • Schedule preventative maintenance for facility
  • Be an asset to Machine Shop clients.
    • For Production Team – High quality parts delivered on time.
    • For Planning Team – Accurate data on labor hours, capacity, and schedule.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
    • 40+ hour work week on average.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • In-depth knowledge of milling and turning
  • Familiarity with Fanuc control
  • Must be able to manage people in a professional manner.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers. Accomplished English speaking and writing.
  • Must have strong organizational skills that include:
  • Excellent organization of shop facilities
  • Organization flow of multiple work orders through the shop
  • Management of shop supplies and tools
  • Must be able to read drawings and give feedback to engineering on design manufacturability.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 5+ years CNC mill and lathe programming required. Trade School, College Certificates and/or Degrees in Manufacturing Technology and CNC Programming are preferred. Experience managing machine shop personnel. In-depth knowledge of milling and turning. Familiar with Haas controls. Must be familiar with geometric tolerancing. Must have experience with tight tolerance parts. Experience machining various types of materials.
 
  • College degree in engineering or business required; appropriate work experience can be substituted.
  • 3+ years’ experience in personnel management preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in machine shop/manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Decisive leadership skills & problem-solving under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Organization skills with strong attention to detail
  • Technical/computer skills
